What We Build for Riverside Businesses

Commercial work is not a bigger kitchen job. The surfaces take abuse, inspection standards are stricter, and the schedule belongs to somebody else. We fabricate and install:

  • Commercial kitchen prep, dish and pass-through counters
  • Laboratory and classroom casework tops for school and research buildings
  • Reception desks, transaction counters and nurse stations
  • Restroom vanity decks, including multi-lavatory runs
  • Breakroom, pantry and shared-office counters
  • Retail display, checkout and point-of-sale surfaces
  • Hospitality bar tops, front desks and guest room vanities
  • Apartment and condo turnover packages, unit by unit

Riverside supplies that demand. The city holds 314,998 residents inside a county of 2,418,185. University of California, Riverside, California Baptist University, Riverside City College and La Sierra University's 150-acre campus keep food service, lab and dormitory casework in rotation, and March Air Reserve Base sits on the city's eastern edge.

Commercial Countertop Materials, and When Each One Makes Sense

Stainless Steel for Commercial Kitchens

Stainless is the default behind a hot line. It is non-absorbent, takes hot pans, and cleans down to bare metal. The real advantage is fabrication: sinks are welded directly into the top and the joint is ground until it disappears, so there is no seam, no caulk bead and nothing for a health inspector to flag. We specify thicker gauge material rather than layer buildup, which keeps deflection out of long prep runs.

Phenolic and Epoxy Resin Lab Tops

For teaching labs, clinics and research benches, phenolic resin is the workhorse. It is lightweight and chemically resistant to roughly 350°F (177°C), which covers most bench chemistry. Where the work runs hotter we move to epoxy resin. Both fabricate cleanly around fume hoods, sink cutouts and service fittings.

Quartz and Solid Surface for Reception and Restrooms

Engineered quartz is 90 to 93 percent crushed quartz bound in 7 to 10 percent polyester resin. It is effectively non-porous, hits about 7 on the Mohs scale against marble's 3, and never needs sealing. Two limits: keep it under 150°C and off sudden thermal shock, and never spec it outdoors, because the resin is not UV stable. Solid surface (acrylic or polyester, about 12mm thick) suits long reception desks and restroom decks. Edges build up in two or three stacked layers, joints are glued and sanded to almost no visible trace, and damage sands out in place.

Glass and Stone for Retail and Hospitality

Tempered and textured glass is non-porous, close to stain-proof, heat resistant to around 700 degrees, and it back-lights well on a bar. Granite wins on presence: an interlocking quartz, feldspar and mica matrix at 2.65 to 2.75 g/cm3, compressive strength usually above 200 MPa. It needs periodic sealing against acids, which we schedule rather than leave to your staff.

Laminate for Budget-Driven Build-Outs

High-pressure laminate is kraft and decorative papers bonded with melamine resins over particle board, MDF or plywood, the sheet running .030" to .040". It is the most economical surface on the market, ships in 8, 10 and 12 foot rough lengths, and post-forms cleanly for back offices and value-tier apartment interiors. Heavy knife scarring cannot be disinfected, so we keep it out of food-contact zones.

What Drives the Cost of a Commercial Countertop Project

We quote in writing after a site walk, never off a phone description. The variables that move a commercial number are material grade and slab count, linear footage and how much of it runs continuous, edge profile, the number and placement of seams, sink and cooktop cutouts, whether sinks are drop-in or welded and integrated, tear-out and disposal, backsplash type, plumbing disconnect and reconnect, overhang and knee-space support steel, and delivery logistics including stair access and loading dock windows. After-hours or phased labor is its own line, and so is anything an inspector has to sign off on.

04

How We Work Around Your Operating Hours

Closing a business to replace counters is rarely acceptable, so we plan the sequence backward from your calendar.

01

Site walk and digital templating.

We template with dxf files and photograph slabs for virtual layout, so you approve seam placement before anything is cut.

02

Shop pre-machining.

Cutouts and edge work happen at the shop on routers, grinders and CNC. Site time drops to setting and joining.

03

Phasing.

A restaurant gets the cold side one night and the hot side the next. A clinic gets one wing at a time. An office gets floor by floor.

04

After-hours installation.

Overnight sets, early-morning finishes, the space handed back clean before open.

05

GC coordination.

We work to the general contractor's schedule, hold our own submittals, and sequence between casework, plumbing and final inspection.

05

ADA Counter Heights and Code Details

Standard fixed counters sit 35 to 36 inches off the floor and 25 to 26 inches deep. Accessible service counters and transaction windows sit lower, and the height, reach and knee clearance come from the accessibility standard on your permit set. We build to the dimensions the architect or plan checker specifies and add the support steel that unbraced accessible overhangs require. Confirm the spec before fabrication. Reworking a mounted stone top is slow.

06

Multi-Unit, Property Management and Volume Work

Riverside has 100,255 housing units and 45.8 percent are renter-occupied, which puts a lot of vanity tops and kitchen counters on turnover cycles. We price volume work per unit, hold one material and edge across a property so future replacements match, and stage deliveries so units come back online in order. Property managers in Arlington, Casa Blanca and Eastside use us for rolling replacements instead of one shutdown.

Why Riverside Businesses Hire Riverside Custom Countertops

Riverside Custom Countertops is licensed and insured, and we carry the documentation your GC and property owner will ask for. We also take fabrication safety seriously. Cutting engineered quartz releases respirable silica dust, and California had documented 500 silicosis cases among fabrication workers as of January 2026, with 72 percent of shops out of compliance with federal silica standards. The state approved emergency regulations in December 2023. We control dust with wet cutting, local exhaust ventilation and respiratory protection, which keeps your project with a shop that will still be operating next year.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Or call us on (951) 589-3336. Calls only — we do not receive text messages.

Can you install after hours so we do not close?

Yes. Overnight and weekend installs are standard. Restaurants, clinics and retail spaces get phased so part of the operation keeps running.

How fast can you get to my site in Riverside?

Site walks are usually scheduled within a few business days. Fabrication lead time depends on material availability and slab count, and the written quote carries a firm date.

Do you work directly with our general contractor?

Yes. We handle submittals, coordinate with casework and plumbing trades, and sequence our install so it does not hold up final inspection.

What is the best countertop for a commercial kitchen?

Stainless steel, in most cases. The welded integrated sink with the joint ground smooth removes the seam that causes sanitation problems in other materials.

Which surface should a school lab use?

Phenolic resin for standard bench work, since it resists chemicals to about 350°F. Epoxy resin where temperatures run higher.

Can you replace counters in an apartment building unit by unit?

Yes. Volume turnover work is priced per unit and staged so vacancies come back on the market in sequence rather than all at once.

Are estimates free?

Yes. We provide a free written quote after a site walk, itemized by material, fabrication, tear-out, install and after-hours labor.

Do you handle ADA-height counters?

Yes. We fabricate to the heights and clearances on your permitted drawings and add the support required for accessible knee-space overhangs.
