Chips and Cracks in Granite and Quartz

Chips show up at sink cutouts, edge profiles and corners. We fill with color-matched resin, cure it, then repolish flush. Granite has poor primary permeability but strong secondary permeability through cracks, so an untreated crack keeps moving water. Hairline cracks stabilize well. One crossing a cooktop cutout usually will not.

Failed and Open Seams

Seams are inherent in post-formed tops and unavoidable on long stone runs. When one opens, something moved below: settled cabinets, a failed support rail, adhesive that let go. We pull the old epoxy, shim the substrate, then re-seam with tinted epoxy and rail clamps. Fixing the seam without the movement buys months, not years.

Stains in Unsealed Natural Stone

Unsealed natural stone harbors bacteria and absorbs fluids. Oil, wine and citrus sink in and darken the slab. We pull the stain with a poultice, sometimes over two or three cycles, then re-seal with an oleophobic impregnator. Most stone needs that every five to ten years.

Etch Marks on Marble and Limestone

Etching is not a stain. It is acid eating calcite, and marble sits near 3 on the Mohs scale against 7 for engineered quartz. Lemon, vinegar and cleaners leave dull spots. We hone the etch out and repolish. On honed finishes it vanishes. On high-polish marble, a wide etched zone means refinishing the whole top.

Burn and Thermal Shock Damage in Quartz

Engineered quartz is 90 to 93 percent crushed quartz in 7 to 10 percent polyester resin. It resists heat below 150 degrees Celsius, but a pan straight off the burner is sudden temperature change, and that cracks it. Scorch marks are resin damage. Light discoloration polishes back. A thermal crack is stabilized, never erased.

Impact Damage and Thermal Movement in Solid Surface

Solid surface is the most forgiving material we repair. About 12mm thick, edges built from two or three stacked layers, glued joints sanded to almost no visible trace. Impact resistance is lower than stainless or cast iron, and it moves at temperature extremes. Gouges and cracks refinish invisibly.

Laminate Delamination and Blistering

Laminate is kraft paper and melamine resins pressed over 45# particle board, MDF or plywood, the sheet .030 to .040 inches thick. Water at the sink swells the core and lifts the sheet. Small edge lifts re-bond with PVA adhesive and clamps. A blistered deck does not come back.

Loose or Dropped Undermount Sinks

Undermount sinks hang on brackets, epoxy and silicone under a finished stone edge. Weight, heat cycling and failed sealant drop them. We support the basin, strip old adhesive, reset with new anchors and re-silicone. Cast iron and fireclay basins get mechanical support, not glue alone.

Wobble from Unlevel Cabinets

A rocking top is a cabinet problem. Kitchen surfaces sit 35 to 36 inches off the floor and 25 to 26 inches deep, and stone telegraphs any dip in that plane. We shim, re-level and re-adhere.
