Countertops in Redlands, CA, Fitted to the Houses That Built the City
Riverside Custom Countertops installs countertops in Redlands, CA, cut in our Riverside fabrication shop and set by our own crews. We handle kitchen countertop installation, bathroom vanity tops, full countertop replacement, chip and seam repair, refinishing, and sealing and polishing for natural stone, plus outdoor kitchen and commercial tops.
Redlands asks more of a fabricator than most cities. A house near Smiley Heights built when Kimberly Crest was new needs different material judgment than a remodel in Lugonia, and we work both, across 92373 and 92374 in San Bernardino County, a straight run from our shop out I-10.

Countertop Services We Bring to Redlands
The full service line travels with us. For remodels, kitchen countertop installation covers templating, slab layout, machined cutouts and the install itself. When the cabinets are sound, which in Redlands they often are, countertop replacement puts new stone on old boxes with the least disruption. Bathrooms get their own attention: our bathroom vanity tops are sized to the compact baths common in older Redlands houses, with undermount cutouts and faucet drilling done in the shop.
Damage does not always mean replacement. Countertop repair handles chips, cracks and failed seams, and refinishing and resurfacing revives a dulled or etched surface for far less than new stone. Marble and granite owners book sealing and polishing on a schedule. Every slab we set starts in our own countertop fabrication shop, so nothing is jobbed out. We also build outdoor kitchen countertops for backyard projects and commercial countertops for offices and front counters.
| Service | Typical Redlands job |

Countertops for a City of Victorians and Bungalows
Redlands, incorporated in 1888 and once the largest navel-orange producer in the world, kept the houses its citrus money built. The last packing house closed in 2023, but the Victorians and craftsman bungalows around Smiley Heights, downtown and the Santa Fe Depot District are still lived in, and their kitchens still come to us. That housing stock changes the countertop conversation.
Materials that read right in an older house
A kitchen in a house the age of the Morey Mansion (1890) or Kimberly Crest (1897) wants materials that existed when the house did. Honed marble, soapstone, and butcher block or plank wood all read as original. Soapstone in particular suits these kitchens: dense, heat-tolerant, and it darkens into a natural patina that matches old woodwork. A polished quartz waterfall island, however good the slab, looks like a transplant in an 1890s room. We will still install one if you want it. We will also tell you when we think the house deserves better.
Working inside original cabinetry
Older Redlands kitchens and baths often have cabinetry worth keeping, and walls that stopped being square decades ago. We template digitally against the real geometry, scribe to plaster, and use thinner 2cm stock with built-up edges where a heavy modern slab would overwhelm the frame. Vanity work in period bathrooms gets the same treatment: tops cut to the original washstand footprint, not forced to a big-box standard.
The other Redlands
This is not only a historic town. The University of Redlands has anchored the east side since 1907, and Esri, headquartered here since 1969, was the city's largest employer by 2000. That professional base supports serious remodels, and for those kitchens we install plenty of engineered quartz and quartzite, full-height splashes, and large-format porcelain. Both versions of Redlands are our customers.

Materials Redlands Homeowners Ask For
| Material | Straight guidance |
|---|---|
| Marble | The period-correct choice; honed finishes hide etching, but keep vinegar and citrus off it |
| Soapstone | Soft to the touch, shrugs off heat, patinas beautifully in an old kitchen |
| Butcher block | Warm, renewable and right at home in a craftsman kitchen; oil it regularly |
| Wood | Joined planks or single wide stave for islands and baking counters |
| Quartz | Non-porous, never needs sealing; the workhorse for modern remodels, indoors only |
| Granite | Heat-tolerant and highly stain-resistant with periodic sealing |
| Quartzite | Harder than granite with marble looks, a strong bridge between old style and new durability |
| Porcelain | Dense large-format slabs, frost-resistant, good outdoors |
| Slate | Absorbs almost no water, quietly durable, suits a Victorian pantry or bath |
| Laminate | The most economical top made; honest choice for rentals and quick refreshes |

How It Works From Our Riverside Shop
Three visits, most of the work between them. First we drive out to template, up I-215 and east on I-10, or along the SR 210 corridor for the north side of town. Digital templating captures your cabinets exactly, out-of-square walls included. Back in the Riverside shop we lay out the slabs, photograph the layout for your approval, and machine the sink and cooktop cutouts with CNC equipment before anything ships. Then the install trip: tear-out if needed, set, seam, seal, done. Most kitchens are one day in the house.
05
What Drives the Investment
We quote in writing, not from a price chart, because these factors move every job differently: the material and slab count, edge profile, sink style (undermount costs more than drop-in), tear-out and disposal of the old top, cabinet condition and any reinforcement an older frame needs, backsplash height, and travel from Riverside, which is a line item factor, not a surprise. Lower-cost jobs are usually laminate or a single-slab replacement; mid-range covers most granite and quartz kitchens; higher investment means premium slabs, marble, or complex layouts. The written quote settles it before we cut.

Why Redlands Homeowners Call Us
Riverside Custom Countertops is licensed and insured. We fabricate in our own shop, so the person who templates your kitchen answers for the slab that comes back. We have worked around original cabinetry enough to respect it, and we put every number in writing before work starts. No subcontracted installs, no verbal quotes.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Or call us on (951) 589-3336. Calls only — we do not receive text messages.
Do you serve both 92373 and 92374?
Yes, both Redlands ZIP codes, on both sides of I-10, including Smiley Heights, downtown, the Santa Fe Depot District and Lugonia.
How far away is your shop?
We fabricate in Riverside and reach Redlands via I-215 and I-10 or the SR 210 corridor. Travel is one factor in your written quote, never a separate surprise charge.
Can you replace a countertop without damaging original cabinetry?
Yes. We template to the existing frame, cut tear-out fasteners rather than prying, and choose stone thickness the old boxes can carry. Protecting the cabinetry is stated in the quote.
Is marble practical in an older kitchen?
It etches under acids and needs regular sealing, so it asks for care. Many owners of period homes accept that because nothing else looks correct. A honed finish hides wear well, and we also refinish etched marble.
What are Redlands homeowners choosing most?
Quartz and quartzite lead in modern remodels. In the historic districts we install more honed marble, soapstone and wood than anywhere else we work.
How long does a replacement take?
Templating one visit, fabrication in our shop, then usually a single install day. Timeline in writing with the quote.
Are estimates really free?
Yes. Site visit, measurements and a written itemized quote, free, with no obligation.
