You pick actual slabs, not a sample chip. Common formats run about 3040 x 1440mm for engineered quartz and 3050 x 1240mm for marble, so most Riverside kitchens with an island need two slabs or more. We photograph them, lay your template pieces over them virtually, and send the multi-slab layout for your inspection before cutting.

Every seam is a choice. We put them where they read least: a sink centerline, an inside corner, a change of direction, not mid-run when the yardage allows better. Seams are inherent in post-formed laminate, minimized on self-edge and wood-edge builds, and nearly invisible in solid surface, where joints are glued and sanded to almost no trace.

The edge is the part your hands touch. Options include eased, bullnose, ogee, a router-trimmed self edge or post-formed curve on laminate, bush polished or fire polished edges on glass, and sculpted edges on cast concrete. Simpler profiles take less fabrication time. Fancier edges cost more, and a heavy ogee is more corner to chip.

An integrated or applied backsplash keeps spills from running behind the cabinets. A matching stone splash comes off your slabs and keeps the veining continuous. A separate tile backsplash goes above the work surface after the tops are set. Either way we caulk the wall joint rather than grouting it, so movement does not crack the line.

California documented 500 silicosis cases among fabrication workers as of January 2026, with 72% of shops non-compliant with federal silica dust standards, and approved emergency regulations in December 2023. Australia banned engineered stone effective July 1, 2024. We wet cut, run local exhaust ventilation and require respirators. Ask any fabricator how they handle dust.
